The Health Science Scholars program (HSS) offers exceptional students who are interested in the health professions and committed to community service a unique opportunity to enrich their undergraduate education in UT-Austin's College of Natural Sciences. The program introduces them to cutting-edge research, a challenging honors curriculum, and a wide variety of service opportunities, and provides academic advising from the summer prior to the students' first semester to their last. But the greatest asset of HSS is the student community itself, exceptional undergraduates with similar aptitudes, passions, and investments.

Service

Our Values

Health Science Scholars actively prepare for their future in health professions by devoting their time and energy to serving communities, both in Austin and beyond. With a range of skills, including medical training, compassion, and multilingualism, students selflessly support those in need. In these meaningful experiences, students not only make a difference in the lives of others but also gain invaluable personal growth and development. Learn more about our volunteer requirement here

Health Science Scholars form lifelong bonds within their like-minded community by collaborating both inside and outside the classroom. The program's curriculum offers opportunities for students to learn from one another and showcase their curiosity, intelligence, and unique talents while working together on enriching projects. Community

Collaboration

The most valuable aspect of HSS is its exceptional student community—remarkable undergraduates with shared aptitudes, passions, and commitments who make the HSS community unique with its blend of shared values and diverse backgrounds. The community also extends beyond students, encompassing UT Austin faculty and dedicated medical professionals who generously contribute their experiences and knowledge to support the growth and development of students.
